What do Solid & Process mean?

Background

We have three main products in our range of transfer prints, all of which have different properties and have been specially designed to work in different conditions. Whether you need a transfer print that is durable, reflective or flexible and suitable for thinner garments, we’ve always got the product you need.

We also have two main sub-categories that you can always choose between when ordering our products.

In this section, we look at the difference between Process and Solid, and examine how you can combine our different products with the sub-categories.

What does SOLID mean?

Printing a transfer print with Solid means that the motif is printed in plain colours only, meaning no shading or different tones. We can print up to 7 different solid/plain colours on the same motif with the guarantee that each individual colour will get the clear nuance you are after.

When should I choose Solid?

If your logo is monochrome or contains plain colours, our recommendation would be to choose Solid.

What products can I select in Solid colours?

You can choose Solid colours on all three of our main products (STARK, REFLEX & FLEX).

On the left you will see a logo in Solid colours, and on the right the same logo produced as Process.

What does Process printing mean?

Process printing uses a raster technique (CMYK) to create the different colours. As you can imagine, anything you can’t print as an ordinary Solid logo can be done using our Process print. If you have a photo, more than 7 colours in the same logo, shading or different tones then you should choose Process to get the transfer print you’re after.

If you decide to print your motif as Process, you can let your creativity run wild with as many shades as you want and as many colours as you want, or just print a photograph with a guaranteed great result.

Printing a file as Process printing requires either a vectorised file or images with 300dpi with a clipping mask around the exposed motifs.

You can also choose to order your print as Process with an embroidery effect.

What products can I select with Process printing?

You can print your motif using Process on both FLEX and STARK.

When should I choose Process?

  • When your logo contains shading
  • When your logo is a photo
  • When your logo contains more than 7 colours
  • When you want an embroidery effect

TIP!

A Process print is characterised by shading, photographs or more than 7 colours in the same logo.
